Wanted: The Most Durable Floors

One word we hear constantly from customers when shopping for floors is durable. Most of the time when looking for a durable floor customers are looking for a product that will withstand kids, pets, water, high-traffic, or maybe even a combo of all the above (+ then a little more)! One time we even had a family specifically looking for a floor that could withstand their indoor heifers…..we’re not kidding.

When durability is the biggest box on your list of qualities for your new flooring, we will almost always start by talking about & looking at luxury vinyl.

If you have done any sort of research or shopping for durable floors, chances are good that you have already heard about luxury vinyl. When we refer to this type of flooring we are not talking about your grandmother’s old vinyl sheet flooring. Also, when we refer to this type of flooring we are talking specifically about products that we stock and sell at our store. Not all luxury vinyl is created equal and unfortunately there are LOTS of bad luxury vinyl products out there.

Let’s dive a little deeper. Luxury vinyl plank or luxury vinyl tile (remember: talking about the selection at Mouery’s Flooring) is a high quality, floating floor comprised of multiple layers (one of those layers in the top being vinyl, thus the name) along with a multi-component “batter” in the middle including some sort of plastic. Most of these products come complete with an attached pad underlayment, a strong locking system, and commercial grade wear layer. Also, most of them have such a thick top layer (called high register embossing) that you can actually see & feel the texture on tile or the bark of the wood species on the plank of the product that it is mimicking! Genius!!

In our opinion, a well-constructed luxury vinyl is THE floor for kids, pets, water, or for anybody looking for a maintenance-free floor!!

Today we are specifically talking about one of the newer products in our showroom- the beefiest, sturdiest, thickest, most-durable luxury vinyl flooring on the market. It is the Plus Premium Collection by Coretec Floors.

While standard WPC (stands for Wood, Plastic, Composite…remember the “plastic batter” from above?) luxury vinyl floors are 8mm thick, the Plus Premium collection is 12mm thick. This equals out to nearly 1/2” of floor!!! This added thickness helps provide two things; a more solid (remember it is a floating floor) sound along with more comfort (give/cushion) under your foot. Along with the overall thicker product comes a thicker wear-layer. A high quality luxury vinyl floor will have a 20 mil wear layer (which makes it qualify as a commercial floor). The Plus Premium collection goes one step further by making a 30 mil wear layer!

Before we jump into all of the beautiful colors and styles available, lets first take a look at what makes the Plus Premium collection so durable.

The construction

The Plus Premium collection has a WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) core. Coretec coins the WPC core as “comfort for life”. We’re breaking down the components of the floor from the bottom up, explaining how each plank is constructed, and what is so unique about the different elements of the floor.
