Stately in Saddlebrook: 417 Home of the Year

Each year 417 magazine sets out to find the most beautiful and innovative homes in southwest Missouri. All nominations are viewed and selected by a panel of out-of-market judges in the homebuilding field. Each entry is judged based on interior and exterior finishes, floor plan, sourced materials and written narrative among other details.

The categories

We want to start by first congratulating each of the extremely talented builders, architects, interior designers and trades that played a role in turning these homes from a dream to a reality.

We are thrilled to have provided the flooring and flooring installation on two of the homes featured for the Homes of the Year. This week we will be highlighting the “Stately in Saddlebrooke” home.

Stately in Saddlebrooke $500,000 - $999,999

Builder: Jason Bekebrede - Monticello Custom Homes and Remodeling

Architect: Dale Peer - Dale Peer Home Design

Interior Designer - Nathan Taylor - Obelisk Home

The Saddlebrook area has certainly seen its fair share of rustic homes and luxury cottages. So when Jason Bekebrede consulted with one area couple on the industrial, soft modern build of their dreams, he knew the project was going to be something completely unique. Perhaps the biggest hurdle: creating a modern space that still felt comfortable and flexible, especially given the homeowners’ collection of antiques.

Naturally, combining sleek interiors with heirloom antiques might intimidate some homeowners. But according to Nathan Taylor, the principal interior designer and co-founder of Obelisk Home, it can actually be a beautiful pairing. “The Most important thing is letting each piece stand on its own,” Taylor says. For example, allowing a dark antique dresser to be the only heavy wood piece in a room. The homeowners took Taylor’s advice, creating a warm, entertainment-friendly quirks. The basement is equipped with a wet bar and an entertainment space complete with a wine room and shuffleboard court. Overall, it’s the perfect space to sit back, relax and enjoy Saddlebrooke’s unparalleled views of the ozark Mountains.

The hardwood Floors

The homeowners chose a 5 3/16” wide, 7/16” thick natural engineered hickory hardwood for all their main living areas from Lauzon Flooring. Lauzon is a Canadian based flooring manufacturer that has quickly become a North American leader in supplying customers with premium hardwood flooring.

Lauzon operates on a zero waste policy. They own their forrest and ethically source the wood for flooring. What can’t be used for hardwood is transformed into carbon neutral pellets to run their wood burning equipment at the factory.

One of the most unique things about Lauzon’s flooring is their finish additive Pure Genius. Pure Genius is a light activated air purifying agent made of titanium oxide that actually makes the air up to 85% purer - this is the equivalent of having 3 trees growing inside your home. Once light activated, it works to decompose toxic contaminants in the air and convert them into harmless water and carbon dioxide molecules.

The Gym floor

For the home gym the homeowner chose our in-stock 18”x18” Centaur rubber floor tiles. These tiles are resilient enough to set heavy equipment on and have just the right amount of give for exercising. When building the home, Jason with Monticello chose to install outlets in the middle of the floor for a clean finish without the hassle of work out equipment cords in the way.

The Details

It’s no secret by now that we love all of the little details that go into making a project special. This home owner chose to do custom square stair treads (made from the flooring) for a crisp and seamless look to transition between the hardwood floors upstairs and down. We can’t get enough of this simple detail that makes all of the difference!
