Hardwood flooring, like anything else, has gone through & continues to go through a series of trends. Some specifications that get affected by flooring trends can be species type, stain colors, board length, board width, type of finish, and type of character (wire brushed, hand scraped, painted bevels, machine finished, painted grooves, etc).
One example of a hardwood flooring trend would be the gun-stock oak popularity in the 90’s. Another example of a hardwood flooring trend would be the narrower width boards. Yet another example of a hardwood flooring trend would be only putting hardwood flooring in the living room. Thankfully, these trends have past and we’re SO excited to talk about the current hardwood floor trend of 2020!
THE hardwood flooring trend of 2020 is European Oak hardwood floors.. and we are ALL over it!! There are thousands of Euro Oak hardwood flooring options out there.. so to make your selection easier, we’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorites and why we love them!
Each of the following floors were purchased here at Mouery’s and most of them were installed by our high quality installation crews. These floors and photos are beautiful examples of European Oak hardwoods in homes located in, or close to, 417 Land (no stock photography here!).
There are a few factors that go into the over all look and quality of a hardwood floor including size of boards (thickness, width, and length), color of stain, type of finish, and how many coats of finish are applied.
Another factor is the hardness of the wood. Each of these floors, featured below, rank as a 1450 on the Janka Scale (which is slightly harder to dent than traditional white oak).
The Janka scale is the rating scale used to compare the relative hardness of various types of wood. The Janka Hardness Test measures the force required to drive an 11.28 mm steel ball into the wood until half the diameter of the ball is embedded in the wood. Check out our Janka scale below to see how European Oak compares to other hardwood species.
Each of the floors we have featured below are pre-finished, meaning the stain is already applied and there is no required on-site sanding, staining, or sealing. This not only creates a much harder floor (to scratch or to penetrate with moisture) but this also helps to create a MUCH less-messy installation.
Now that we’ve covered the key factors in these european white oak hardwood floors, lets dive into our favorite Euro Oak hardwood flooring options!

Oil finishes are among some of the most durable hardwood floor finishes making it a great option for families of any lifestyle. This particular floor has 2 coats of oil finish applied in the factory, and then one additional coat of oil is applied on site after the installation. Oak Brushed White Oil has a nearly natural stain color and pairs beautifully with grey and other cooler toned colors. This product is no longer in production, so once what we have in stock runs out this product will be unavailable. We do however, have other options in our showroom, from the same manufacturer, that have this same look!
